Who we are
The County of San Diego Department of Child and Family Well-Being is committed to strengthening families and ensuring that youth are safe, healthy and thriving. We provide trauma-informed prevention and protection services to vulnerable children, their families, and communities to reduce child abuse and neglect. Our trained staff support families and communities in developing plans and making decisions to keep children safe so that every child grows up safe and nurtured.
Positions
The County of San Diego needs social workers and support staff, including entry level and administrative support, as well as student workers. Protective Services Worker
A protective services worker ensures the safety and well-being of children by:
- Evaluating and investigating allegations of abuse or neglect
- Helping families develop plans to safely keep children at home and evaluating/monitoring their safety
- Placing children in protective custody when they are unable to remain safely in their home

Social Worker I
A social worker I:
- Assesses and provides referrals and information to families that may help them provide a safe, nurturing home
- Performs casework services such as writing reports, letters and case summaries
- Supervises visits between children and families
- Transports children to appointments
- Assists with additional documentation, paperwork and answering phone calls
Residential Care Worker
This role works with children from birth to age 17 at the A.B. & Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center.
Polinsky is a 24-hour temporary emergency shelter facility for children separated from their families for their own safety, or when parents cannot provide care. Employees at Polinsky provide a consistent, high level of care and ensure the health, safety and well-being of children.
Residential Care Specialist
Provides care for children at Polinsky Children’s Center, especially those under six years of age. Observes and documents behavior and development needs of children.
Student Worker
Undergraduate, graduate/Tech and high school students can gain valuable internship experience. Applicants must be full-time students at a local high school, vocational program, job readiness program, or an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 semester/quarter grade point average.

Background clearance
Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Felony and/or misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on when they occurred, and the type, number, recency and severity of the crime. Before hiring, candidates will undergo a background investigation.
Volunteer with CFWB
Camp Connect
Camp Connect reunites children in the child welfare system who are separated from one or more of their siblings due to their placement in care. The program creates monthly opportunities for separated siblings to connect, reducing the effects of trauma. It includes an annual six-day summer camp in the mountains near Julian .
