Get approval for phone calls and visits
A social worker must approve all visits and phone calls at Polinsky Children’s Center.
Contact the child’s social worker. If you don’t know who the child’s social worker is or have their contact information, call 800-344-6000.
Schedule a visit
To schedule a visit, call 858-514-4600 and press 2. Please allow up to 24 hours for a return call.
We can provide an interpreter. Please tell us if you need one.
Visiting
All visitors must follow procedure to enter the building. Visitors over 18 must have proof of ID.
At your first visit, you will get a short introduction about visiting children or youth at PCC. At that time, you may ask other questions.
Visiting hours
The visitation center is open every day including all holidays. Hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Bringing items to a visit
We provide children with nutritious meals, clothing, shoes, hygiene supplies, toys, and any special items.
During visits, you can bring meals, snacks, and drinks to eat during the visit.
If you want to bring non-food items, contact the child’s social worker or the visitation social worker when you schedule your visit.
Contact a child at PCC
Children in foster care have the right to send and receive confidential:
- Phone calls
- Texts
- Paper mail
In some cases, a court order may limit a child’s private communication.
Some children at PCC can have their cellphones.
You can also call the main number at 858-514-4600 and ask to speak to the child.
Contact the child’s social worker if you have questions about calling or texting children at PCC.
Take a child off campus
Contact the child’s social worker for approval to plan outings and passes.
