"I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Natalia King Quick is a dedicated sustainability and environmental justice advocate with a rich background in waste diversion and community engagement. In her role at the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Justice (OSEJ), Natalia plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainability efforts across various departments and supporting departmental sustainability commitments.

Before joining OSEJ, Natalia was a Recycling Specialist II with the County’s Department of Public Works, where she oversaw the commercial and multi-family complex recycling program, ensuring compliance with state and local waste diversion requirements. Prior to that, she worked at the local nonprofit I Love A Clean San Diego, managing the Countywide waste diversion hotline and database, WasteFreeSD.org, and supporting community litter cleanup and beautification events.

Natalia’s passion for sustainability began during her teenage years and played a pivotal part in her experience at UC San Diego, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Animal Behavior, and Evolution. As a student, she was actively involved in several initiatives, including co-founding the Sierra Club at UCSD and the Village Edible Garden.

When Natalia isn’t on the clock, you can find her working with her nonprofit San Diego Brewcycling Collaborative, spending time with friends and husband Matthew, gardening with their four cats, and enjoying a variety of tabletop and video games.
